Govinda, who has been away from Bollywood for several years, recently opened up about his struggles in the industry during a conversation with Mukesh Khanna on Bheeshm International. While he occasionally appears on reality shows and special events, he has not had any film releases in six years. The actor claimed that Bollywood conspired against him, which led to his downfall in the industry.
Reflecting on a difficult phase in his career, Govinda revealed that despite media reports of him being jobless, he had actually turned down films worth ₹100 crore. “When they were writing that I didn’t have work, I had actually turned down films worth ₹100 crore. I would look in the mirror and slap myself for refusing that money. I told myself, ‘You have gone mad; you could have financed yourself with that money.’ The films had the same kind of roles that are working well these days.” However, he defended his decision, saying one should always listen to their heart and remain honest with oneself.
Discussing his entry into politics, Govinda alleged that he faced deliberate defamation and was systematically pushed out of Bollywood. He said, “I went through a defamation phase, and it was pre-planned. They wanted to remove me from the industry. I understood that these were all educated people, and I, an uneducated outsider, had entered their space. So they started playing games with me.” He also made shocking claims about facing life-threatening situations, stating, “When conspiracies against me began, even attempts on my life started. Many people were caught outside my house with guns, and different methods to eliminate me were being devised. After these conspiracies, my nature changed. I thought, whether or not I engage in politics, this is how things are.”
On the work front, Govinda was last seen in Rangeela Raja, a 2019 comedy film directed by Sikander Bharti and produced by Pahlaj Nihalani. The movie, in which he played a dual role alongside Mishika Chourasia and Anupama Agnihotri, failed at the box office. However, the actor hinted at a possible comeback during his appearance on The Great Indian Kapil Show last year, where he revealed that he has three projects in the pipeline. In his personal life, Govinda recently made headlines due to speculation about his marriage with Sunita Ahuja. Rumors of their divorce circulated online, but neither of them addressed the issue publicly. Their lawyer later confirmed that while Sunita had filed for divorce six months ago, the couple has since reconciled.
