Legendary filmmaker Shyam Benegal breathed his last on December 23, leaving a massive void in the Indian film industry. Photos from his 90th birthday celebration have now gone viral which sees the iconic director with Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana Azmi and Divya Dutta among others.
Azmi had shared the photos earlier in the month with the caption, “Some of his actors with Shyam Benegal on his 90th birthday Mashallah”

Another photo featured Azmi with Benegal and Shah which she captioned, “On #ShyamBenegal’s 90th birthday with my co-actor of many films and my favourite actor @Naseeruddin Shah . Why aren’t more people casting us together ?!!”

Shyam Benegal introduced Shabana Azmi to the industry with the film Ankur which was also the first feature film directed by him. They went on to collaborate with more films such as Nishant, Mandi and Junoon. Naseeruddin Shah was also a part of Benegal’s Mandi and Manthan.
After his unfortunate demise, the actress mourned the loss and said, “Shyam Benegal has been my guru in everything, not just in acting but in a way I view the world.”
