Aamir Khan Denies 3 Idiots Sequel Talks R Madhavan Says The Idea Is Idiotic

3 Idiots remains one of Hindi cinema’s most iconic films. The 2009 Rajkumar Hirani directorial starred Aamir Khan, R Madhavan and Sharman Joshi in the lead roles, along with Boman Irani, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Mona Singh among others. Over time, the film has gone on to achieve cult status.
Recently, reports suggesting that 3 Idiots might be getting a sequel began doing the rounds. Now, R Madhavan and Aamir Khan have reacted to these speculations. Both actors clarified that they have not been approached for a sequel, contrary to earlier reports suggesting that the original leads would return.

R Madhavan told Bollywood Hungama, “A sequel to 3 Idiots sounds great. But it also sounds far-fetched. All three o us—Aamir Khan, Sharman Joshi, and I—are much older now. Where do we go in the sequel? What are our lives like now? It is an interesting thought, but hardly conducive to a proper sequel. I would love to work with Raju Hirani again. But 3 Idiots again? I think that would be idiotic.”

Meanwhile, Aamir Khan told the portal, “We had so much fun making that film! My character Rancho is the most popular character I’ve played. People still talk about Rancho. So yeah, I’d love to do a sequel. But no one has approached me.”

About 3 Idiots

3 Idiots follows the journey of three engineering students at an elite college in India and questions the pressure-driven education system. Rancho (Aamir Khan) is a student who thinks out of the box and is driven by curiosity, not competition. His unconventional outlook clashes with the rigid mindset of the college director, Viru Sahastrabuddhe, while deeply influencing his friends Farhan (R Madhavan), an aspiring wildlife photographer stuck in an engineering degree to please his family, and Raju (Sharman Joshi), who studies under extreme pressure due to his family’s financial struggles.
The film challenges the idea of success, reviews the high-pressure education system and urges people to chase excellence, instead of success.
