Hema Malini opens up on life after Dharmendraâs demise

Veteran actress and politician Hema Malini has spoken candidly about the heartbreaking loss of her husband, legendary actor Dharmendra, whose demise on November 24, 2025, left the Indian film industry and millions of fans mourning. In a recent interview with The Times of India, Malini described the period as an “inconsolable shock” and shared how difficult it was for the family to come to terms with his passing.

Recalling the days leading up to his death, Hema Malini said the family remained hopeful that Dharmendra would recover once again, just as he had done multiple times in the past. His smiling appearance while greeting fans from the hospital after a recent discharge had further strengthened that belief. However, fate had other plans.

Calling the month of his passing “terrible,” the Seeta Aur Geeta actress shared that she was constantly by his side during his illness. Dharmendra’s children Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Esha Deol and Ahana Deol also did not leave his side during his illness. “The last time he went to the hospital, we all thought he would come back again. But sadly, that didn’t happen,” she said.

Hema Malini also revealed that the family had been preparing for a grand celebration to mark Dharmendra’s 90th birthday on December 8, 2025. “The preparations were on, and then suddenly, he was not there. To personally see him sink was very difficult. Nobody should have to go through this kind of situation,” she expressed. In her first interview since his passing, she reflected on the emotional toll of watching a loved one fade away.

after his demise, everyday moments continue to trigger memories. Malini shared that when Dharmendra’s favourite foods, such as thepla with chutney, idli-sambar or coffee, are prepared at home, she is overwhelmed with emotion, remembering how much he enjoyed them.
