A day after Dhurandhar became the fifth highest grossing Indian film of all time, the spy thriller added another milestone to its remarkable run. The film has now entered the list of the top 15 highest grossing Indian films in overseas markets and it has achieved this feat despite not releasing in the Middle East, one of the biggest overseas territories for Indian films.
Day 32, which marked the film’s fifth Monday in theatres, saw Dhurandhar experience its first major slowdown. After maintaining strong momentum for nearly a month, the film recorded a steep drop of around 65 percent in domestic collections and over 60 percent overseas. This sharp fall pushed its worldwide single day earnings below Rs 10 crore for the first time since release.
Even so, the overall numbers remain massive. According to trade sources, Dhurandhar has earned Rs 776.75 crore net in India, translating to a gross of around Rs 932 crore. The makers, Jio Studios, claim the film has already crossed Rs 800 crore net domestically, making it the first Bollywood film to achieve this milestone. Overseas earnings stand at over 31 million dollars, taking the worldwide gross to around Rs 1215 crore, putting it very close to RRR, which finished at Rs 1230 crore.
By Monday, Dhurandhar’s overseas collections touched 31.3 million dollars. Distributors believe the figure could have crossed 40 million dollars had the film released in the Middle East. Despite this, it has managed to surpass the overseas lifetime collections of hits like Sultan and Pushpa 2: The Rule.
Starring Ranveer Singh as Hamza, an Indian operative on a dangerous mission in Karachi, the film also have Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt and R Madhavan.
