The cast and crew of KPop Demon Hunters were on cloud nine as they bagged â� major awards at Golden Globes 2026. EJAE, Mark Sonnenblick and 24Ido received their trophies in the Animated Feature Film and Best Original Song category respectively. Singer EJAE took to the stage to open up about the achievement. Visibly emotional, she went ahead to share about her experience in the South Korean music industry, where she recalls being rejected as a trainee.
The singer opened up, stating, “When I was a little girl, I worked tirelessly for 10 years to fulfill one dream: to become a K-pop idol. I was rejected and disappointed that my voice wasn’t good enough, so I leaned on songs and music to get through it. Now, I’m here as a singer and a songwriter.”
She further added, “It is a dream come true to be part of a song that is helping other girls, other boys of all ages to get through their hardships and to accept themselves. So thank you, Golden Globes, for accepting my voice and our voice.”
Golden co-writer Sonnenblic said, “This award goes to the people who have had their doors closed on them. I can confidently say that rejection is redirection. Never give up, it’s never too late to shine like you’re born to be.”
In a previous interview with Rolling Stone, EJAE had opened up about her character Rumi in KPop Demon Hunters. She had said, “She’s such a perfectionist and trying to hide her shame, hide her flaws. And that’s a huge part of when you’re training. You’re trying to put your best foot forward. ‘Golden’ really means a lot to me, because I feel like at that time, I needed a song like that.”
In other news, the 83rd Annual Golden Globe Awards took place on January 11, 2026 at The Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles. It was hosted again by Nikki Glaser and celebrated the best in film and television. For the first time, it also included podcasts in the list of nominations. One Battle After Another dominated the night in the film categories. Hamnet took Best Motion Picture – Drama with a standout lead performance by Jessie Buckley. On the television side, Adolescence and series like The Pitt and The Studio earned top awards.
