Famous American rock climber, Alex Honnold, created history by climbing Asia’s tallest skyscraper, Taipei 101, without any safety equipment or ropes. 40-year-old climber, Alex, did the impossible climb on January 24, 2026. Alex had met his wife, Sanni McCandless, back at a book signing in 2015. The couple got married in 2020 and are parents to two daughters- June and Alice. However, Alex’s kids are unaware of his solo climbing adventures.
Alex Honnold reveals his kids do not know about his profession
Alex Honnold sat down for an interview with CNN and revealed that he climbs five days a week. He did attempt scaling the Taipei 101 without any safety gear, but for him, his family is his biggest strength and priority. The life he has been building with his wife, Sanni, and two kids matters way more than climbing goals, especially climbing a building like Taipei 101. However, Alex honestly revealed that his children do not know the profession of their dad and shared:
“It’s not going to be the one climb that I define myself by. I don’t think they even know what dad does. I don’t think they know what climbing is when we’re bouldering, kind of climbing small rocks. They’ll play in the forest and they’ll play around, but I don’t think climbing means anything to them yet.”
