Vishal Bhardwaj and Shahid Kapoor’s film O’Romeo has faced yet another roadblock ahead of its release. Hussain Ustara’s daughter, Sanober Shaikh, has sought a permanent injunction against the release of the film. She filed a lawsuit at a Mumbai civil court and claimed that O’Romeo was an unauthorised biopic of her late father. She also claimed that the film portrays his life and relations falsely.
The action thriller is based on Mafia Queens of Mumbai by Hussain Zaidi, and Shahid stars as Ustara. DV Saroj, Sanober’s advocate, filed a suit where it is mentioned that O’Romeo is based on Ustara, who has been portrayed as a gangster. Sanober claimed that the release of the film will cause irreparable injury to her and her children, who have “every right to live in the world in peace and a good atmosphere.”
The suit also mentioned, “The release of the movie containing a false portrayal would have a serious implication on the plaintiffs’ family members.” Sanober further said that her father helped in preventing crime across the country and in Mumbai, and helped police track criminals. She alleged that the film was made with the intent of commercial and monetary gain without her prior consent, and the release would “besmirch the character of a dead person.”
The matter will be heard on February 6.
Meanwhile, the film also stars Triptii Dimri, Nana Patekar, Avinash Tiwary, Tamannaah Bhatia, Disha Patani and Farida Jalal, among others. The trailer opens with a haunting dialogue on love by Triptii’s character. She says, “Mohabbat ek baddua hai jo mujhe bhi lagi hai aur aapko bhi,” which sets the tone. In the trailer, Ustara is described as someone with a rowdy soul. Triptii plays the female lead, a woman who initially approaches Ustara for contract killing. However, the professional request takes a personal turn as Ustara finds himself drawn to her.
O’Romeo is slated for a theatrical release on February 13.
