On the birth anniversary of India’s first woman educator, Savitribai Phule, Dancing Shiva Films and Kingsmen Productions have announced the worldwide release of Phule, a biographical film set to hit cinemas on April 11, 2025. The release date marks the 197th birth anniversary of Jyotirao Phule, Savitribai’s husband and fellow reformer.
The film captures the extraordinary journey of Jyotirao and Savitribai Phule, a couple who defied societal norms during an era dominated by child marriages and gender-based oppression. At a time when girls were denied education and married off at a young age, Jyotirao chose to educate his wife. Together, they spearheaded campaigns for the rights of women, underprivileged communities, and marginalized groups, leaving an indelible mark on India’s social landscape.
