Amid ongoing tensions between Iran and Israel, reports surfaced that filmmaker Quentin Tarantino and his family were killed in an Iranian airstrike. These rumours naturally sent panic waves through his fans and the film fraternity. However, much to everyone’s relief, a source close to the Oscar-winning filmmaker has refuted the claims.
The rumours came to the surface when an X account with over 100K followers claimed that Tarantino, along with his wife and children, was killed in an Iranian airstrike. Some photos and videos showed him seeking refuge in a bomb shelter in Israel. The post had credited Deadline as a source. However, the publication called it out and said that they were falsely credited for the news of Tarantino’s death, and they never carried such a report.
A source close to the director also told TMZ that Tarantino is alive and well, and his family is all good, too. Furthermore, the photos and videos of him seeking shelter have also been flagged as AI-generated or fake.
Online chatter intensified after Iran mounted an attack against Israel on Monday, which was seen as a retaliation for last week’s coordinated US and Israeli strikes on Iran that killed their Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Tehran had already promised a forceful response.
The confrontation widened on Monday when Iranian forces struck Israeli territory, asserting that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was among those they sought to hit.
Meanwhile, talking of Quentin Tarantino, he last directed the 2019 film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood starring Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie among others. One of the most acclaimed Hollywood filmmakers, he is also known for his films such as Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction, Inglorious Bastards and Reservoir Dogs, among others.
