After a roaring success, KPop Demon Hunters is coming back with a sequel. The film follows a K-pop girl group, Huntrix, who lead double lives as demon hunters. They face off with Saja Boys, a rival boy band, whose members are secretly demons. Upon its release, it became a huge success globally, and now streaming giant Netflix has confirmed that it will be coming back for a sequel.
The film is now in development and will once again be directed by Korean-Canadian filmmaker Maggie Kang and co-directed by Chris Appelhans. The official release date has not yet been announced, but according to reports, it is aiming for a 2029 release. Talking about the global response, Kang, who was also one of the creative forces behind the first movie, said, “I feel immense pride that audiences want more from this Korean story and our Korean characters.”
Meanwhile, the movie won its first Grammy award for the hit song Golden. The track won in the Grammy Award for Best Song Written for Visual Media category, also marking K-pop’s first-ever Grammy win.
The cast and crew also bagged â� major awards at the Golden Globes 2026. EJAE, Mark Sonnenblick and 24Ido received their trophies in the Animated Feature Film and Best Original Song categories, respectively. Singer EJAE took to the stage to open up about the achievement. Visibly emotional, she went ahead to share about her experience in the South Korean music industry, where she recalls being rejected as a trainee.
The singer opened up, stating, “When I was a little girl, I worked tirelessly for 10 years to fulfil one dream: to become a K-pop idol. I was rejected and disappointed that my voice wasn’t good enough, so I leaned on songs and music to get through it. Now, I’m here as a singer and a songwriter.”
Furthermore, KPop Demon Hunters has also been nominated for the 98th Academy Awards in the Best Animated Feature Film and Best Original Song categories.
