Ilhan Omar has been active in the political world for many years. In January 2019, she was sworn in as a Congress member and has been the U.S. Representative for Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District. Ilhan Omar has mostly prioritized problems related to student debt relief, immigration reform, education, and more. She is additionally serving on the House Budget Committee alongside the House Education and Workforce Committee. The 43-year-old is also a part of the Congressional Progressive Caucus.
Ilhan Omar was encouraged by her grandfather to join politics. She worked for the Minneapolis City Council and the University of Minnesota in the past. Ilhan has been a recipient of the Community Leadership Award from Mshale in 2015, and her name was included in the list of women changing the world by Time magazine in 2017.
