When Asha Bhosle’s daughter, Varsha, revealed deleting memories of her father, Ganpatrao
Asha Bhosle’s daughter, Varsha, who used to write for Rediff, once revealed that her earliest memory of the singer was a fleeting montage of doorbells ringing very late at night. She knew a sobbing lady who was putting her back to sleep. Varsha wanted to go outside the closed doors, as her father had forced Asha to sing. Varsha had become used to her father’s routine. Varsha confessed to deleting memories of her dad and said:
“Later, I learned that that was a routine day in the life of my father: guarding Aai against all impediment which may have prevented her from singing for their supper. I have erased my father from my memory, and with him, some of my own childhood: a defence mechanism, people call it. Suffice to say that it is the stuff which has fed scriptwriters and novelists from time immemorial, of indignities heaped upon submissive womanhood.”
