In an exclusive conversation around his latest quirky comedy film Toaster, Rajkummar Rao spoke about the film’s unusual premise. The story follows a miser who goes to absurd lengths to retrieve a toaster he had gifted at a wedding after the ceremony is called off, setting off a chain of bizarre and chaotic events.

Opening up about fatherhood, Rao said, “Oh, it’s the most beautiful thing. I think that a human can experience is just to have a kid. Because that emotion… I also used to hear from my friends, that their parents are like, you have no idea. You actually have no idea, right? Yeah, things will change, it’s the most… But you don’t understand. Yes, I don’t understand. Until you experience it yourself, you will never understand that emotion that how in a second, the meaning of your life changes.”

Adding to the emotional note, Archana Puran Singh shared, “Before you have a kid, your heart beats in your chest. After having a kid, your heart is always outside your body. That heart is roaming around. Your heart is not in your body at all. That is a huge difference. And at that time, you also remember your parents, that when you grow up, you will understand.”

The film also stars Sanya Malhotra alongside Rao and features a strong ensemble cast including Archana Puran Singh, Abhishek Banerjee, Farah Khan, Upendra Limaye, Vinod Rawat, Jitendra Joshi and Seema Pahwa. Directed by Vivek Das Chaudhary and produced by Patralekhaa, the film started streaming from Wednesday.

Filmfare’s review highlights that the film ultimately rests on Rao’s shoulders, stating, “The film ultimately rests on Rajkummar Rao’s able shoulders; his facial expressions, body language, and machine-gun dialogue delivery significantly enhance the comedy.”
