Anne Hathaway is currently gearing up for the release of her upcoming film, Meryl Streep starrer The Devil Wears Prada 2. While speaking about her preparation for one of her other films, Mother Mary, Anne noted that she kept listening to a Beyonce song to help her get into the character. Mother Mary, starring Hathaway, released on April 17, 2026 in the United States. It will be released nationwide on April 24, 2026.

Hathaway revealed that she used to listen to the singer’s song American Requiem repeatedly to prepare for the role. It focuses on the psychosexual affair between pop singer Mary and fashion designer Sam Anselm. She shared, “Her technique in that song is so mesmerising and astonishing – and real… Just listening to her phraseology, her musicianship, understanding the history of her voice that had led her to be able to make that sound that is so still, that’s so present, I studied that, and I appreciated that Beyoncé can do the runs.”
Anne also added, “It was a completely new way of singing, and it baffled me for the longest time. It took about two years before I finally cracked it… So much of it was just studying what other singers did and trying to figure out, frankly, why they sounded so cool.”
She also spoke about her mother, actress Kate McCauley Hathaway. She revealed, “I’m more soft-spoken than she is, and so in my head. I’ve never really rated myself as a singer. When I was growing up, I was like, ‘Whitney Houston, that’s a real singer,’ and I just can’t do runs like that.”

Anne Hathaway is currently engrossed in promotional activities for The Devil Wears Prada 2. The actress is starring with Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, Simone Ashley and more.
