RB Choudary’s untimely death in a road accident in Udaipur, Rajasthan, has saddened the film industry. Considering the popularity of his banner, Super Good Films, in South India, it is no surprise that several stalwarts such as Rajinikanth, Pawan Kalyan, and Chiranjeevi have extended their condolences in heartfelt tributes.
Scout young talent
As someone who started producing films in the 1980s, Choudary (who hailed from Rajasthan) achieved many firsts. He had a vision that bridged multiple languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada. The veteran producer was known for identifying fresh talent and launching numerous successful careers. Film observers note that his production house became a symbol of quality family entertainment. Under his leadership, the banner produced over 95 films, which is nothing short of remarkable. Many of these projects achieved blockbuster status while also garnering critical acclaim. He was a rare producer who maintained a high success rate across four decades.
Instrumental in shaping careers
Choudary earned a unique reputation for launching 44 directors into the film industry. He was instrumental in shaping the early career of Tamil Nadu CM-to-be Thalapathy Vijay through key collaborations. His contributions were recognised with numerous prestigious honours. He received several Filmfare Awards for his work in South Indian cinema, while his films also secured multiple State Film Awards across regions. As Telugu megastar Chiranjeevi wrote, “His contribution to Indian cinema is beyond words.” Rajinikanth described him as a “top-notch producer” and a “wonderful human being” who provided opportunities to countless young directors and kept the film world thriving.
RB Choudary’s professional journey began in the jewellery business before he transitioned into cinema. His colleagues often speak about his disciplined approach to project timelines and budget management. Above all, his ability to spot commercial potential in simple scripts defined his long and successful career in the industry.
