Pahlaj Nihalani died on June 4, 2026, at the age of 76. The former CBFC chief was struggling with liver cirrhosis alongside some other health problems, which eventually led to his sudden demise. Pahlaj joined the Central Board of Film Certification in 2015, which was followed by frequent criticism over his rules of censoring movies, including the ones that received an A certificate for mature content.
