Mackenzie Shirilla’s case came into the limelight in May 2026 after the release of the Netflix documentary, The Crash. Mackenzie was allegedly involved in an accident that happened in 2022, leading to the death of her boyfriend, Dominic Russo, and their friend, Davion Flanagan. Ohio Supreme Court has rejected Mackenzie Shirilla’s appeal
Mackenzie Shirilla’s legal team asked the Ohio Supreme Court to review her appeals after her sentencing. However, the request was dismissed on June 23, 2026. The attorneys said in the legal documents that they were seeking a review because of a calendar mistake. While the attorneys failed to meet the deadline of filing the challenge, they claimed that it happened because they did not look into the fact that 2024 was a leap year.
