Filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj is all set to make his long-awaited debut as a leading man with DC, which is slated to hit theatres on July 31. Directed by Arun Matheswaran, the action thriller sees the acclaimed director stepping in front of the camera for the first time after establishing himself as one of Tamil cinema’s most successful filmmakers.
A milestone release for Lokesh Kanagaraj
Wamiqa Gabbi plays the female lead in the film, marking her first Tamil outing opposite Lokesh. The cast also includes Sanjana Krishnamoorthy and Avinash Raghudevan in pivotal roles. Produced by Kalanithi Maran under the Sun Pictures banner, DC has generated considerable buzz ever since its title teaser introduced audiences to Lokesh’s intense new avatar.
The technical crew brings together several notable names from the industry. Anirudh Ravichander composes the music, while Mukesh G handles cinematography and GK Prasanna takes charge of editing. The action sequences have been choreographed by PC Stunts, promising the gritty visual style that has become synonymous with Arun Matheswaran’s films. The teaser and trailer have hinted at a dark, violent world, staying true to the filmmaker’s signature storytelling.
Arun Matheswaran’s fourth directorial
DC marks Arun Matheswaran’s fourth feature after Rocky, Saani Kaayidham and Captain Miller. Over the years, the filmmaker has carved out a niche for himself with raw, stylised action dramas, and expectations are high for his collaboration with Lokesh Kanagaraj.
For Lokesh, the film represents a brief detour from filmmaking before he returns to the director’s chair. His last directorial, Rajinikanth’s Coolie, emerged as one of the year’s biggest releases, and he is next set to helm Allu Arjun’s tentatively titled AA23.
Wamiqa Gabbi, meanwhile, continues to expand her presence across industries. Besides DC, the actor has Tiki Taka and Kuki Ki Kundli in her upcoming slate, adding to an already busy lineup.
With a celebrated filmmaker making his acting debut, a director known for uncompromising action dramas at the helm, and Sun Pictures backing the project, DC has all the ingredients to be one of Tamil cinema’s most anticipated releases this month.
