
Veteran singer S. Janaki, who was one of India’s most celebrated playback singers has unfortunately passed away. For the unversed, she was popularly known as ‘Nightingale of South India’ and over the years, she had given hit songs like Gori Ka Sajan, Thendral Vanthu, Putham Puthu Kaalai and more. Reportedly, she had recorded songs in more than 15 languages.
A while ago, her family confirmed her death. However, it is worth noting that the cause of her death has not been revealed. Her tragic death at the age of 88 has brought attention to her personal life and her untold love story with her late husband, V. Ramprasad. She fondly used to call him ‘Ramu’. As per reports, veteran singer S. Janaki was born in April 1938, in Andhra Pradesh. She developed an interest in music at a very young age. Eventually she received training in classical music and went on to become the Nightingale of South India. It was in 1957, when she entered the world of playback singing.
