After spending years in production limbo, Mysskin’s much-awaited Train has finally picked up steam. The makers unveiled the film’s teaser at its audio launch on Sunday, offering audiences their first substantial look at the Vijay Sethupathi-led action thriller. While the teaser stops short of revealing the central conflict, it packs enough intrigue and adrenaline to build anticipation for what appears to be one of the director’s most ambitious films in recent years.
Set almost entirely aboard a moving train, the teaser opens with Vijay Sethupathi’s character navigating a dangerous situation involving heavily armed men. Explosive gunfights, hand-to-hand combat, and frantic movement through the train’s compartments suggest a tense rescue mission where every second counts. The confined setting immediately gives the film a distinct visual identity while hinting at the claustrophobic tension that has often defined Mysskin’s best work.
Shruti Haasan, whose role has largely remained under wraps until now, appears only briefly, but one particular shot has already sparked speculation. Seen picking up a firearm before another sequence shows a woman holding Vijay Sethupathi at gunpoint, the teaser leaves viewers wondering whether her character is friend, foe, or something in between. Narain, meanwhile, appears to play a police officer coordinating the unfolding crisis from outside, while Sampath Raj also makes a striking appearance among the ensemble.
A long-awaited comeback finally nears release
Beyond its action, Train carries the unmistakable stamp of a Mysskin film. The teaser favours mood over exposition, revealing just enough to create intrigue without giving away its larger mysteries. The combination of stylised violence, unusual framing, and atmospheric tension recalls Hollywood train-set thrillers such as The Taking of Pelham 123 and Snowpiercer, while retaining Mysskin’s signature storytelling style.
The supporting cast includes Nasser, Yugi Sethu, KS Ravikumar, Kalaiyarasan, Ira Dayanand, Ajay Ratnam, Vincent Ashokan, Babloo Prithiveeraj, Thrigun Arun, Ganesh Venkatraman, Preethy Karan, Singampuli, Suresh Chandra Menon, Shaji, Selvaah Chandrasekhar, GR Aathithyaa, Rohan, Kaniha, Janany, Diya Sharma, and Komagan.
On the technical front, Mysskin has composed the film’s music in addition to writing and directing it. Cinematography is by Fowzia Fathima, editing by Sri Watson, and art direction by Mohana Mahendran. The film is produced by Kalaippuli S Thanu under the V Creations banner.
Train first went on floors in 2023 and wrapped production the following year. Despite being completed, the film remained unreleased for months, leaving fans wondering about its fate. The latest teaser, however, offers the strongest indication yet that the project is finally heading towards theatres.
Although the makers are yet to announce an official release date, the teaser concludes with the words “coming soon,” signalling that the wait may finally be nearing its end. The recent announcement of Vijay Television as the film’s satellite partner has further fuelled expectations that Train is at last on track for its theatrical release.
