Dhanush’s upcoming action spectacle Om: Chapter 1 – Udhiram has officially entered its final phase of production. Just days after the makers announced the addition of veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah to the cast, the team has now moved to Malaysia for what is expected to be the film’s last shooting schedule before release.
Malaysia schedule marks the home stretch for Om
The update came through Dhanush’s manager Sreyas, who shared an Instagram Story featuring the iconic Petronas Twin Towers with the caption “#Om final schedule”. The story was accompanied by the film’s introductory track that was unveiled alongside the title glimpse, signalling that the project has entered the final stretch.
While the makers have not revealed how long the Malaysia schedule will last, reports suggest Mammootty will be part of the shoot for around five days. Dhanush and the newly announced Naseeruddin Shah are expected to remain with the production throughout the schedule.
Directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, who follows up the success of Amaran with this ambitious multi-starrer, Om has steadily built anticipation ever since its title glimpse introduced audiences to its rugged world. The glimpse hinted at an action-packed story featuring red sanders smugglers and woodcutters, with Dhanush playing a mysterious man who comes to the rescue of a group held captive by armed men. While the makers are yet to reveal the film’s plot, the visuals have already sparked curiosity among fans.
Star-studded ensemble gears up for festive box office clash
Om boasts one of the strongest ensemble casts in recent Tamil cinema. Alongside Dhanush, the film stars Mammootty, Sai Pallavi, Sreeleela, Indrans and Naseeruddin Shah, whose casting marks his return to Tamil cinema 26 years after making his debut in Hey Ram.
The film also brings together several notable reunions. Rajkumar Periasamy reunites with Sai Pallavi after their successful collaboration on Amaran, while Dhanush and Sai Pallavi share screen space again after Maari 2. For Mammootty, Om marks his return to Tamil cinema after Peranbu, adding another layer of excitement to the project.
Produced by Dhanush under the Wunderbar Films banner along with Shraddha Agrawal’s R Take Studios, the film features music by Sai Abhyankkar, cinematography by Ezhil Arasu, editing by Kalaivanan, choreography by Sandy and action choreography by Yannick Ben. The makers have chosen to keep the story firmly under wraps, with only brief glimpses offered through the promotional material released so far.
Om is currently scheduled to hit theatres on October 16, setting up one of the biggest box office clashes of the year. The film is slated to release just a day after Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2, with both films eyeing the lucrative Navaratri holiday window. If the release plans remain unchanged, audiences could witness a rare festive showdown between two of Tamil cinema’s biggest stars.
With production now nearing completion and post-production expected to gather momentum soon, anticipation continues to build around Om as it gears up for what promises to be one of the most talked-about releases of the festive season.
