Dhadak 2 is facing trouble getting clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The movie’s portrayal of cast discrimination has led to this development. There have been concerns over many scenes and dialogues, which could further delay its release.
If you’re not aware, the movie was initially slated to release in November 2024. However, the release date was pushed to 2025. It was being reported that may hit the screens around the Holi weekend. However, with Holi being two weeks away, it is unlikely that Dhadak 2 will be released in such a short notice. Moreover, the promotions for the movie haven’t started yet.
Another report recently suggested that the movie is facing clearance delays due to its content. Bollywood Hungama’s report suggests, “Dhadak 2 deals with caste issues and is supposed to be a shocking tale. The Examining Committee (EC) of the CBFC applauded the makers for such a film. But due to its content, they are mulling over what rating should be given to the film and what scenes to be cut, if any.”
The report also states that the makers won’t begin promotions, until they receive full clearance from CBFC. If the clearance is issued soon, they may also move forward with their initial March 14 release schedule.
Dhadak 2 is a remake of Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal. However, that movie did not get into trouble while seeking clearance from CBFC. A report states, “Dhadak 2 makers must have made the same film as it’s the same story. When Pariyerum Perumal didn’t face any trouble, why is Dhadak 2 being subjected to harassment?”
The motion poster for Dhadak 2 also had a tagline that hinted at its caste-based theme. “Ek tha raja, ek thi rani. Jaat alag thi, khatam kahani,” the tagline read. The background also featured “Dalit Lives Matter.”
While it is unlikely that the movie will be released in the Holi weekend, one can expect it to be released in 2025 itself. Directed by Shazia Iqbal, the film stars Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri in key roles.
