Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha tied the knot with her partner Zaheer Iqbal last year in an intimate ceremony, but the couple received a lot of online trolling for their inter-faith marriage. A lot of questions also arose about whether she would convert to Islam after their marriage. Now, the actress opened up about the same and revealed why she did not convert.
She shared that neither of them forced their religion on each other. The actress said, “We were not looking at religion. We are two people in love who wanted to get married, and that’s exactly what we did. He is not enforcing his religion on me, and I am not enforcing mine on him. We never even discussed religion. We don’t sit and talk about it. Instead, we appreciate and understand each other’s cultures. They follow certain traditions in their home, and I have mine. I respect them and their culture, just as they respect me and my family. That’s how it should be.” The Lootera actress added that there was never a question of conversion and their love for each other was enough.
Sonaksh Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal dated for almost seven years before tying the knot on June 23 last year. They married as per the Special Marriage Act at her Bandra residence. There were reports that her actor-politician father Shatrughan Sinha was not happy with their marriage, but he attended the function, putting an end to these speculations.
She once revealed why she kept her relationship with Zaheer private for all these years. In an interview, the actress said, “Everyone knows everything about you. Something as personal as love should be kept for yourself.” Zaheer, introduced to Sonakshi by Salman Khan, starred alongside her in Double XL. Their connection blossomed on the sets, leading to a beautiful journey that culminated in marriage.
