In a candid chat titled In Conversation With The Mystic, Alia Bhatt recently sat down with spiritual leader Sadhguru to discuss the complexities of modern life. Hosted by JITO Chennai Plus (Jain International Trade Organisation), the dialogue touched upon several personal topics, but it was Alia’s questions regarding motherhood and her daughter, Raha, that truly captured the audience’s attention.
Alia, who welcomed Raha on November 6, 2022, has been open about her journey as a new mother, often sharing the parenting books she reads with her followers on Instagram. During the session, she asked Sadhguru for his perspective on the pressures of raising a child, specifically asking, “Your one advice to a parent who’s worried if they’re being a good parent would be?”
Sadhguru’s response was direct. “A worried parent is not a good parent,” he said, cautioning that anxiety does not benefit the child and only leads to the parents harming themselves through constant stress. While Alia countered by saying, “I don’t think you can take worry out of it [parenthood],” Sadhguru suggested a complete shift in perspective.
With the full video now released on Sadhguru’s YouTube channel, more details of the exchange have emerged. Sadhguru challenged the traditional idea of teaching a child. He asked Alia, “When you have a child, drop this idea that you have to teach something. I know you are a wonderful woman, but between you and your 3.5-year-old daughter, who is more joyful?”
When Alia admitted that Raha was the more joyful one, Sadhguru explained that parents should act more like consultants for life rather than instructors. “What is there for you to teach?” he jokingly asked, adding that “a child is much closer to life than you are.” He encouraged Alia to simply observe her daughter as she grows, mentioning that children between the ages of three and six are naturally bursting with laughter, unlike many adults who require effort to feel happy.
The conversation also took a lighter turn when the topic of sleep was raised. Sadhguru confessed that he only sleeps four to four-and-a-half hours a day, which left Alia visibly shocked. When she shared that she requires eight to nine hours of sleep, Sadhguru jokingly said, “Then when do you live?”
On the work front, Alia will return to the big screen later this year in Alpha which also stars Sharvari, Bobby Deol and Anil Kapoor in key roles.
