In the world of Indian cinema, few films have sparked as much conversation about technical ambition and visual effects as the 2011 superhero epic Ra.One. Starring Shah Rukh Khan as the protagonist G.One, the film was a massive project that made people talk about Indian VFX. Now, years later, director Anubhav Sinha has sparked excitement among fans by discussing the potential for a sequel.
Speaking in a recent interview with Prabhat Khabar, Anubhav admitted his desire to revisit the high-tech universe he created over a decade ago. However, he was quick to note that a project of this magnitude requires a significant investment of time.

Anubhav revealed, “I really want to make Ra.One 2 as well, and Khan saab (SRK) even said in a press conference that he also wants to do it.” He talked about the logistical challenges, saying, “But making Ra.One 2 will take 2-3 years, which is quite a long commitment. So first, I need a little free time, and then I’ll think about when in my life I would want to dedicate those three years, and whether Khan saab will be available at that time? Then we will discuss it, because Khan saab is also busy doing one film after another.”
Interestingly, Shah Rukh Khan himself has shown a keen interest in returning to the suit. During a fan meet last year on his 60th birthday, he addressed the sequel rumours with excitement. He said, “If Anubhav ever decides to, because he’s the one who made it, and I think only he can make it again, we worked really hard on it.” He further added, “And God willing, if the time ever feels right, we might do it again. I think it’s easier now anyway.”
While Ra.One faced its share of criticism and saw moderate box office numbers upon its 2011 release, its legacy has grown with time. Today, it is remembered for its technical finesse and entertaining set pieces, carving a unique niche in pop culture. As both the director and the star express a willingness to collaborate again, fans can only hope that the right time for Ra.One 2 arrives sooner rather than later.
