K-pop star Jennie, a member of Blackpink, is facing accusations of plagiarism over a teaser for her upcoming solo track titled Like Jennie. The 9-second teaser, which dropped on social media this week, has sparked speculations among fans who think it sounds exactly like Rani’s theme from the 2023 film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani.
In the teaser for Like Jennie, the beats and chant-like vocals have drawn comparisons to the introduction and theme music of Alia Bhatt’s character Rani from the Karan Johar directorial. Rocky Aur Rani fans were quick to point out the similarities. A user took to X and called it a “copy-paste.” Another fan added, “This is the same song, even the vocals are similar,” referring to the repetition of “Jennie” in the teaser.

Rani’s theme from Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani was composed by music composer Pritam. A netizen wrote, “I cannot believe Jennie is plagiarising Pritam, out of all people.” Considering that Pritam has faced plagiarism charges on several occasions, fans found the incident rather ironic.
Meanwhile, some fans suggested that the similarities between the two tracks could be due to sampling. Pritam has sampled international tracks in his music. Many speculated that he may have taken inspiration from a Korean song for Rani’s theme in the movie. That being said, there is no clarity on whether Jennie or the track’s producers have heard Rani’s theme from Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.
About Jennie’s new track
Jennie’s latest track Like Jennie is all set to release this Friday. The song’s teaser sees a montage of Jennie’s polaroid photos in black-and-white. The K-pop idol shared the clip along with a new poster. Like Jennie comes after the idol released new music as a part of her debut solo studio album Ruby.
So far, Jennie and her management have not replied to the plagiarism claims. It remains to be seen if the allegations will be refuted.
