Building on the massive popularity of the hit series Mirzapur, the makers have decided on a film adaptation. It is expected to push boundaries both narratively and visually. While the show carved a niche for itself with its raw storytelling, memorable characters and unflinching portrayal of power struggles in the hinterland, the movie aims to elevate that intensity for the big screen.

Sources further suggest that the transition from OTT to cinema will allow the makers to explore a more expansive canvas. As per an independent industry source, “Mirzapur: The Movie is set to expand the franchise’s gritty universe on a much larger scale than before. The film aims to be bigger, darker, and more cinematic than ever. With high-octane action, elevated stakes, new characters entering the narrative, and fan-favourite faces returning, the film will significantly broaden the world of Mirzapur. The story is expected to bring fresh conflicts, unexpected twists, and a theatrical experience mounted on a grand scale.”
The project is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious adaptations in recent times. An official announcement regarding release timeline has been made. It is slated to release on September 4, 2026. The announcement was done with the caption, “Ab dekhiye bhaukaal bade parde par. Watch #MirzapurTheMovie releasing at your nearest theatres on 4th September. Dekhiye #MirzapurTheMovie, 4 September ko aapke nazdeeki cinemagharon mein.”

The movie will be directed by Gurmeet Singh and written by Puneet Krishna. It will also star Sheeba Chaddha, Ravi Kishan, Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi, Divyenndu and more. It is produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar and co-produced by Kassim Jagmagia and Vishal Ramchandani under the banner of Excel Entertainment.
