Asha Bhosle and RD Burman were married for 14 years. They tied the knot in 1980 and remained married until Burman’s death on January 4, 1994. They lived separately but remained close. In one of Bhosle’s interviews with Filmfare, she revealed that she does not live with Burman as she has to spend time with her kids. She said, “My children are my life. I can never leave them alone.”
She added, “When Panchamda and I decided to get married; we mutually agreed that we would be together during the day – maybe attend parties in the evening, but at night I’d return home to my kids and he to his apartment. “
We went through our archives to share rare glimpses into their bond. These archival photographs capture moments that go beyond music, revealing companionship and collaboration. In some of the photos, they are seen in candid studio sessions where Burman seems immersed in composition while Asha joins him. In one of the clicks, the couple is seen posing with late Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor. They are performing on stage in several other snaps. Their picture on-stage with microphone in hand and eyes focused, echoes an era when melody and emotion took centre stage.
The gallery is a tribute to two icons and to a love story woven through music.
