After making a strong impression across international film festivals, the award-winning film Mercy is now gearing up for its India release on April 24. The makers dropped the official trailer on April 10, offering a heartfelt glimpse into a story that quietly explores themes of life, family, and loss. Set against the backdrop of Mumbai on Christmas Eve, the film captures a deeply personal moment in the life of a family standing at an emotional turning point.
At the centre of the narrative is Shekhar, played by Raj Vasudeva, a man torn between love, duty, and a difficult decision that remains largely unspoken. The trailer leans into subtle storytelling, highlighting moments of silence, emotional strength, and compassion. It paints a picture of a family navigating a sensitive situation, while also touching upon complex themes like passive euthanasia and the idea of dignity in letting go.
Director Mitul Patel shared that the film comes from a very personal place. He revealed that the idea took shape after coming across an interview with Paresh Rawal, which spoke about how love can sometimes mean choosing to release rather than hold on. That thought became the emotional core around which Mercy was built. Raj Vasudeva also opened up about his experience, saying the film demanded a level of emotional honesty that stayed with him even after the camera stopped rolling.
Reflecting on the film’s tone, Adil Hussain shared that cinema, at its finest, mirrors the human soul. He appreciated how Mercy handles such a delicate subject with restraint, avoiding heavy dramatics and instead allowing the emotions to unfold naturally. The film also features performances by Aparna Ghoshal, Kunal Bhan, and Niharica Raizada, and is set to arrive in theatres on April 24, with Zee Music Company backing the music.
