Mortal Kombat II has finally locked a release date. A sequel to the 2021 film, Mortal Kombat, the movie is scheduled to arrive in theatres on May 8, 2026. A majority of the cast members are returning, along with some new faces, introducing new characters. The previous movie was based on a video game franchise of the same name. Moreover, it was a reboot of the film series, which originally started with some animated films in 1995, followed by two live-action films in 1995 and 1997.
The 2021 Mortal Kombat unexpectedly became a hit at the box office despite the fact that critics were not so impressed with the screenplay and a few other things. Viewers gave a positive response to the action sequences. A sequel entered development immediately after the arrival of the first movie. It received a go-ahead from New Line Cinema in 2022, and the casting process started in May 2023. Filming began in the same year and ended by the beginning of 2024.
