Rumours around Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone’s equation during Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani have circulated for years. This is largely because the film marked their first collaboration after their highly discussed breakup. Now, actor Naveen Kaushik, who was part of the 2013 blockbuster, has revisited those days. The Dhurandhar actor shared what really went on behind the scenes.
In a recent conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Naveen addressed long-standing speculation about possible tension between the former couple on set. According to him, the reality was far from dramatic. “Like everyone else, we also thought a fight might break out at any time. We were almost expecting something to happen so we’d have gossip,” he admitted. “But nothing like that happened. They were absolutely professional on set.”
Naveen went on to describe the shoot as physically demanding due to the challenging locations rather than interpersonal issues. The cast and crew filmed on steep mountains. This feat involved often climbing difficult terrain to get shots. Despite the gruelling conditions, he recalled a positive and relaxed atmosphere. “There were always parties with the entire cast and crew in between. They were very cordial and very nice,” he said.
Shutting down any lingering assumptions about emotions, Naveen added that there were no sparks of any kind during the shoot. “There was no romance, no jealousy. They were fun to be with and always open to talking with other crew members,” he shared. This revelation highlights how smoothly the team functioned throughout the schedule despite speculation around personal differences.
Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone first met on the sets of Bachna Ae Haseeno and dated for nearly two years before parting ways in 2010. Despite their breakup, they went on to deliver memorable performances together. They have since delivered Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Tamasha. The audiences continue to praise their on-screen chemistry even today.
Directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani starred Ranbir, Deepika, Kalki Koechlin and Aditya Roy Kapur. The film emerged as a massive box-office success, earning Rs 318 crore worldwide against a budget of Rs 75 crore, and remains one of the most loved romantic dramas of the decade.
On her birthday meet and greet recently, Deepika Padukone subtly addressed a possible comeback for the duo. When a fan asked about when she will be seen in a romcom again, she replied saying it’s one of her favourite genres as both an actor and audience. Fans threw in names like Hrithik Roshan. They also added Ranbir Kapoor to the mix. She began to say, “We have spoken about it, honestly..” before she was cut off by fan.
Until there’s official confirmation of a Ranbir-Deepika comeback, fans will wait eagerly to see their favourites on screen again.
