Even as his film Dhurandhar continues to make headlines, Ranveer Singh has found himself caught in a controversy. The actor is facing a criminal complaint for allegedly hurting religious sentiments after he imitated the daiva from Kantara Chapter 1. What he reportedly saw as a lighthearted tribute has now escalated into a legal issue.
Ranveer has approached the Karnataka High Court, asking for the case against him to be dismissed. His legal team argued that there was no intention to offend anyone. According to them, the actor was simply appreciating Rishab Shetty’s impactful performance and the film’s unique storytelling style, and his gesture has been misunderstood.
In their plea before the court, his lawyers stated that an act of admiration has been wrongly interpreted as a criminal offence. They also informed the court that Ranveer has already received two police notices, which they said have caused him significant stress. The defence requested an urgent hearing to settle the matter quickly and ease the pressure on the actor.
However, the bench declined to grant immediate relief. Justice M Nagaprasanna, hearing the matter in Bengaluru, made it clear that being a celebrity does not entitle anyone to special consideration. The court refused to fast track the case, and Ranveer will now have to wait for the matter to be taken up as per the scheduled proceedings.
