Salim Khan was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday, February 17. While the Khan family has not issued an official statement on his health, Filmfare has learnt the veteran screenwriter has been put on ventilation.
Meanwhile, Dr Jalil Parkar told NDTV that Khan was admitted to the ICU at 8.30 am today. He was first rushed to the hospital’s emergency ward. The doctor further informed that they will be addressing a press bulletin at 11 am tomorrow.
“A team of doctors consisting of Dr Vinay Chavan (neurologist), Dr Ajit Menon (cardiologist) and Dr Nitin Dange (neurosurgeon), and Dr Bineet Ahluwalia attended to him. However, tomorrow at 11 am we shall be addressing a press bulletin with due consent of the relatives and maintaining the confidentiality of the patient to the utmost. He is stable but is under close observation in regards to his clinical status,” said Dr Jalil Parkar.
Earlier in the day, his son, superstar Salman Khan, was seen arriving at the Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai. Several members of the Khan family, including Helen, Salma Khan, Arbaaz Khan, Alvira Khan, Arpita Khan, and Aayush Sharma were seen visiting the hospital. Salman Khan’s close friend Iulia Vantur was also seen at the hospital. Javed Akhtar, who was Salim Khan’s long-time collaborator, also paid him a visit in the hospital.
Salim Khan was last seen in the public eye during Sohail Khan’s birthday party last month. He also rang in his 90th birthday in November last year. Salim Khan remains one of the most influential screenwriters in Hindi cinema. He began his journey as an actor before moving behind the scenes. His writing helped shift mainstream storytelling towards morally complex heroes and socially resonant themes.
That vision found its most powerful expression in his iconic partnership with Javed Akhtar. As the legendary duo Salim–Javed, they give Indian cinema several classics such as Zanjeer, Andaz, Deewaar, Sholay and Don.
Salim Khan was first married to Salma Khan, with whom he has four children, including actors Salman Khan, Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan, as well as daughter Alvira Khan Agnihotri. He later married actress Helen, who became an integral part of the family.
