Shah Rukh Khan Calls Asha Bhosleâs Voice A Pillar Of Indian Cinema

The Indian film industry and fans are in mourning after the passing of the legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle. Among the many celebrities paying their respects, Shah Rukh Khan shared an emotional tribute, describing her voice as one of the foundational pillars of the Hindi film industry. Asha Bhosle passed away at the age of 92 on Sunday. She had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai on Saturday before breathing her last. The news was followed with actors and filmmakers expressing their grief over the end of an era.

 

Taking to social media, Shah Rukh posted a wholesome picture of himself affectionately giving Asha Bhosle a peck on the cheek. Along with the image, he penned a heartfelt note reflecting on her massive contribution to the world of music. He wrote, “It’s truly sad to learn about Asha Tai’s passing… her voice has been one of the pillars of Indian cinema and will continue to resonate world over for centuries to come.” Shah Rukh also recalled the personal bond he shared with the singer, mentioning that she always treated him with immense kindness. He added, “A talent that will outlive many, she always showered me with blessings and love and i will miss her. Rest in Peace Asha Tai… love you.”

Asha Bhosle’s career spanned over eight decades, during which she recorded an incredible 12,000 songs across 20 different languages. Her versatility earned her numerous accolades, including two National Film Awards for the iconic tracks Dil Cheez Kya Hai from Umrao Jaan and Mera Kuch Saamaan from Ijaazat. In recognition of her contribution to the arts, she was honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2000 and the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian honour, in 2008. She won nine Filmfare Awards including a Lifetime Achievement Award and a record seven Filmfare Awards for Best Female Playback Singer. 

 

Shah Rukh is joined by several other prominent figures in mourning, including Akshay Kumar, Anil Kapoor, Hema Malini, Kajol, and Raveena Tandon, all of whom took to social media to pay their respects to Asha Bhosle. Though she is gone, her voice remains an eternal part of India’s cinematic heritage.
