On the occasion of Sivakarthikeyan’s birthday, Raaj Kamal Films International unveiled the title and release window of his 26th film, Seyon, confirming an October theatrical rollout worldwide. Backed by Kamal Haasan’s banner alongside R Mahendran in association with Turmeric Media, the film is directed by Sivakumar Murugesan, who is awaiting the release of his debut feature Thaai Kizhavi.
A God-Like Arrival at Karumathur
The announcement video sets the tone for a rural entertainer steeped in local lore and charged with reverence. The clip opens amid chaos at the Maasi Kalari Festival in Karumathur’s Virumandi Temple. An inspector, played by Aruldoss, arrives at a police station after a scuffle erupts during the festivities. Young men complain about being assaulted after flashing laser lights at dancers, while a festival committee member claims he too was attacked by the same mysterious figure. A prisoner adds fuel to the intrigue, declaring, “He is the one who channels God.”
What follows is a theatrical entry. Sivakarthikeyan’s character walks in to near divine reception. A woman washes his feet, and the inspector folds his hands in reverence. When questioned, the officer responds, “This is Lord Virumandi”. The scene culminates with the protagonist knocking down a challenger, prompting an elderly woman to exclaim, “The OG is back”.

The invocation of Virumandi inevitably recalls Kamal Haasan’s 2004 cult film Virumandi, in which he both starred and directed. Whether Seyon is directly connected to that universe or simply borrowing its iconography remains under wraps. But the deliberate reference has already sparked conversation among fans.
A Reunion of Familiar Forces
Seyon marks the second collaboration between Raaj Kamal Films International and Sivakarthikeyan after 2024’s Amaran, directed by Rajkumar Periasamy. That film saw the actor in uniform as an Army officer. Interestingly, the Seyon teaser includes a line that appears to wink at his recent filmography. “He was just serving in the Army and going to protests. They dragged him into this.” The remark seemingly nods to Amaran and to Parasakthi, where Sivakarthikeyan played a revolutionary voice opposing Hindi imposition.
Director Sivakumar Murugesan reunites with the star after Thaai Kizhavi, which is produced under Sivakarthikeyan Productions and stars Radikaa Sarathkumar. Seyon, however, appears mounted on a far larger scale. Composer Santhosh Narayanan joins the project for his maiden outing with RKFI and Sivakarthikeyan. The technical crew also includes cinematographer Vivek Vijayakumar, editor San Lokesh, stunt director Supreme Sundar, art director RK Nagu, and costume designers Keerthy Sampath and Joshua Maxwell J. Bala Saravanan is glimpsed in the teaser as part of the ensemble cast.
Sivakarthikeyan was last seen in Parasakthi, directed by Sudha Kongara, alongside Sreeleela, Atharvaa and Ravi Mohan. He also has projects lined up with Venkat Prabhu and Cibi Chakravarthy.
As for Kamal Haasan, he was recently seen in Thug Life directed by Mani Ratnam. Up next, he headlines KH 237, the directorial debut of stunt duo Anbariv. On the production front, he is also backing Thalaivar 173 starring Rajinikanth and directed by Cibi Chakravarthy.
With Seyon positioned as a rural mass entertainer rooted in faith, folklore and hero worship, the October release promises a festive showdown at the box office. Whether it is a spiritual successor, a thematic homage or an entirely fresh myth in the making, one thing is certain. Sivakarthikeyan is stepping into terrain that blends reverence with rebellion, and audiences are watching closely.
