That is the emotional pitch of Kaadhal Kathai Sollava, whose trailer dropped on Monday and immediately set the tone for a film that places human connection at its core. The trailer opens in a radio station, where Vijay Sethupathi appears as himself, stepping into the role of a guest host for a segment titled ‘Kaadhal Kathai Sollava’. The concept is simple but emotionally potent. Listeners call in, not for advice, but to unburden their hearts. What follows are two intertwined love stories, narrated through the voices of Jayaram, Aathmika, Nakkhul and Rithika Sen. The film is directed by Sanil Kalathil, known for Malayalam titles like Uthara (2003) and Radio Madhav (2019), as well as the 2024 web series Soul Stories. For Sanil, Kaadhal Kathai Sollava marks a significant step into bilingual storytelling, as the project is being made in both Tamil and Malayalam.
Speaking about the film, the director said, “This is a unique love story unfolding from three different perspectives. This will be a heartwarming film that speaks about human emotions, trust, love, sacrifice, and the strength of humanity.” His words echo the trailer’s quiet sincerity and its focus on emotional truth rather than spectacle.
The makers have also promised that Vijay Sethupathi will be seen in a “never-before-seen avatar.” While he appears as himself, the trailer suggests a softer, more reflective side, positioning him as a listener and emotional anchor rather than a conventional protagonist.
Crafting the mood
Produced by Pepper Mint Private Limited under Akash Amaya Jain’s banner, the film brings together a technically strong crew. Cinematographer Shajan Kalathil lends a warm, intimate visual tone, while music composers M Jayachandran and Sarath shape the emotional landscape.
