
Baseball lose another gem of Phi Gartnee. Better known as “Scarp Iron” among his fans, Phil has passed away at the age of 76 after a long health battle. His determination to work harder, whether it was on the field or in his personal life, made him different. But unfortunately, he lost the battle for his life. What caused the death of Phil Garner?
According to a statement by Phil Garner’s family, the former MLB icon passed away on April 11, 2026. He was suffering from pancreatic cancer and fought the illness bravely for two years. Phil’s disease was diagnosed in February 2024. In turn, he went through multiple rounds of chemotherapy and radiation to fight his illness. But despite the difficult treatment, his family revealed that he never lost his “signature spark of life.” At the same time, he was connected with baseball in one way or another until his last days. First Baseman, Jeff Bagwell, shared his views about Phil and said:
“He was competitive. He was honest. He told you the truth. He made you accountable — all the great things that leaders do. I think Gar just did a tremendous job of that. You could see how much he cared about his players, cared about winning, and our organization. It was just a pleasure to play for him and be his friend.”
