Govinda Opens Up On His Habit Of Reaching Late On Shooting, Compares Acting With Classical Music

Govinda is one of the most loved actors of the country and though he is not seen much in the movies nowadays, people still talk about his acting, movies and his habit of coming late on shooting. It is being said that despite having exceptional talent and energy on screen, his habit has impacted his career in the 2000s. Recently, he shared insights into the reasons behind his struggle with punctuality, revealing that his approach was deeply influenced by legendary actor Dilip Kumar.

In a candid interview, Govinda explained that he never intended to be late but believed in ensuring he was in the right frame of mind before stepping onto a film set. Comparing himself to a classical musician who fine-tunes their instrument before a performance, he described his process of aligning his emotions and rhythm before facing the camera. He emphasised that he was a devoted follower of Dilip Kumar and did not subscribe to the idea of habitual lateness. According to him, he never let anyone down and always prioritised being fully prepared before beginning work.

Recalling the early days of his career, Govinda spoke about managing nearly 40 films at once, constantly moving from one set to another. He admitted feeling overwhelmed as someone without formal education in the industry and credited Dilip Kumar for guiding him through the chaos.

He recounted how the veteran actor advised him to drop 25 films and also helped him in returning the amount that he had taken for the movies. Trusting Dilip Kumar’s wisdom, Govinda followed his advice and made decisions that ultimately shaped his career.

The two actors shared the screen in the 1990 film “Izzatdaar”, directed by K Bapaiah, alongside Madhuri Dixit, Anupam Kher, Shakti Kapoor and Asrani. Dilip Kumar, who was known as the Tragedy King remains one of the most revered icons of Bollywood and he bid goodbye to this world at the age of 98 yrs in 2021.
