Tom Cruise to be honoured with BFI Fellowship ahead of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning

Tom Cruise is gearing up for the release of his upcoming film Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. Amidst all the buzz around the film’s release, the actor is set to be honoured with one of the highest awards in cinema, the BFI Fellowship. The British Film Institute (BFI) will recognise the actor’s contribution to world cinema and his connection to the U.K. film industry.

The Fellowship will be presented to Tom Cruise at the BFI Chair’s Dinner in London on May 12. Ahead of the dinner, the actor will take part in a special In Conversation session at BFI Southbank, where he’ll talk about his iconic career, the popular Mission: Impossible franchise, and his experience of working in the U.K.

Tom Cruise Mission Impossible

Tom Cruise has shot several films in the U.K. His Mission: Impossible movies were shot in locations across the U.K. His decision to shoot in Britain has not only brought British filmmaking into the mainstream but has also created multiple opportunities for local talent. Many graduates from the BFI Film Academy and the BFI Future Skills Programme have reportedly worked on his latest films.

Opening up about receiving the award, Cruise shared, “I’m truly honoured by this acknowledgement. I’ve been making films in the U.K. for over 40 years, and I have no plans of stopping. The U.K. is home to incredibly talented professionals, and some of the most stunning locations in the world. I’m grateful for everything the BFI has done to support filmmaking here.”

Cruise’s commitment to British cinema goes beyond just shooting movies. From filming death-defying stunts on London’s landmarks to bringing attention to hidden locations across the country, his mark on British filmmaking is undeniable.

BFI Chair, Jay Hunt, also praised Cruise’s contributions. “Tom has brought so much to the U.K. by choosing to make many of his films here. He’s put our locations on the world map, created jobs, and, of course, delivered unforgettable performances,” he shared.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning will be released in theatres on May 23, 2025.
