Laapataa Ladies was not only one of the most-watched films of the past year, but also India’s official entry to the Oscars. Directed by Kiran Rao, the film features Nitanshi Goel, Sparsh Shrivastava and Pratibha Ranta. Aamir Khan, who produced the film initially, wanted to play the role of the cop in the film. The role eventually went to the delightful Ravi Kishan. Aamir was candid about his failed audition attempt. Now, the tape is out.
Aamir Khan’s Laapataa Ladies audition clip goes viral
For those who haven’t heard, Aamir Khan has launched a YouTube channel. The actor has shared his audition video for Laapataa Ladies. It sees him wearing a police uniform, chewing paan and speaking in an accent. A few bloopers also made it into the video as Aamir tried his best to essay SI Shyam Manohar.

While the tape is impressive, Aamir and Kiran have been candid about the decision to cast Ravi Kishan, even hailing him as the better choice. And fans agree. A comment on the video read, “No doubt that Aamir is a great actor, but Ravi Kishan nailed that role; it was meant for him.” Another shared, “Had Aamir played the role, the surprise element of the bad cop turning good would have been lost. RK did well, so no regrets.”
Ravi Kishan went on to steal the show in Laapataa Ladies as one of the many standout performances in the film.

The acclaimed film revolves around two brides in rural India who accidentally get swapped since their faces are concealed. The film was India’s official entry to the Oscars. Kiran and Aamir promoted the film ahead of the Academy Awards, however, it did not make it to the shortlist.
