However, it failed to win the award, but the movie again made headlines when netizens found similarities between the film and the Arabic short film Burqa Ladies. While the writer of Laapataa Ladies denied the plagiarism, the French director , Fabrice Bracq, expressed his shock and sadness.

Recently, in an interview with IFP, Burqa Ladies‘ director talked about his film being copied by Bollywood. The director claimed he had not watched the film till the similarities were brought to notice. He further revealed that he noticed the similarities in both films and how the film’s storyline matched his short film.
