Jaya Bachchan Opens Up On Paparazzi Clashes And Their Impact On Grandson Agastya Nandaâs Career

Veteran actor Jaya Bachchan is frequently in the spotlight, often due to her tense interactions with the paparazzi. Her public appearances regularly become talking points, as photographers often seek a reaction from her. Recently, some sections of the film industry have speculated that these frequent clashes might be negatively affecting the career of her grandson, Agastya Nanda, and influencing how his films are received by the public.

Agastya Nanda, the grandson of Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan, is currently continuing the family’s cinematic legacy. He made his acting debut in the 2023 Netflix film The Archies and followed it up with Sriram Raghavan’s war drama, Ikkis, in 2026. However, with both his streaming and theatrical releases failing to meet expectations, rumours have circulated that Jaya’s strained relationship with the media could be a contributing factor.

In a recent interview with Variety India, Jaya Bachchan dismissed these claims. Addressing the idea that her equation with the media impacts her grandson, she said, “No power on earth can change my grandson’s destiny. If Agastya is meant to be a star, nothing can stop that.

To support her point, she gave the example of her husband, Amitabh Bachchan. She mentioned that even the biggest stars have faced media friction without it ruining their success. She asked, “At the peak of his stardom, Amitji was banned by the press for almost 15 years. Did that affect his career?” Jaya made it clear that she believes Agastya’s professional journey is independent of her own actions. She concluded by saying, “Agastya will have his own relationship with the press. It has nothing to do with me.

This is not the first time Jaya has spoken about Agastya. In a previous conversation with Bollywood Hungama, she praised his individuality and focus. She shared that while he seeks guidance from his grandparents and his uncle (Abhishek Bachchan), he is determined to make his own mark. She said, “Luckily Agastya is a fast learner. Neither of his parents are actors, so he’s leaning on his grandparents and his Maamu (Uncle) for guidance. You know me, I wouldn’t praise anyone, least of all my own children or grandchildren. But Agastya is special. That child is determined to forge his own path. Just like I once did. Like me, he won’t follow the herd.
