Kattalan Unveils Mysterious âVenomâ-Inspired Character Ahead Of Release

The makers of Kattalan, directed by Paul George and headlined by Antony Varghese, are steadily building intrigue around their upcoming action film. On Sunday, the team dropped a fresh character poster that has already sparked conversation online, thanks to its striking visual inspiration.

Labelled “Kattalan Character Reveal #20,” the poster introduces a mysterious figure named ØØØ. Clad in biker gear and sporting a helmet emblazoned with the iconic visage of Venom, the design instantly draws parallels to the popular anti-hero famously portrayed by Tom Hardy in Sony’s Marvel films. Adding to the intrigue, the makers also tagged an Instagram account with the handle “callmevenom,” further fuelling curiosity about the character’s role in the narrative.

A stylish reveal that sparks curiosity

The reveal campaign for Kattalan has been one of its most engaging promotional strategies, with each character introduction adding a new layer to the film’s expansive world. ØØØ stands out not just for its anonymity but for its visual attitude. The biker aesthetic combined with the Venom-inspired helmet hints at a character that could embody chaos, menace, or even vigilante energy.

While the makers have remained tight-lipped about the specifics, the stylisation suggests that Kattalan is aiming for a heightened, almost graphic novel-like tone in parts. It also signals a film that is not afraid to blend global pop culture cues with a rooted story setting.

The ensemble cast further adds weight to the project. Alongside Antony Varghese, the film features Sunil, Dushara Vijayan, Kabir Duhan Singh, and Parth Tiwari. Supporting roles are played by veterans like Jagadish and Siddique, along with Hanan Shaah, Hipzter, Anson Paul, Raj Tirandasu, and Shon Joy.

A large-scale actioner with global ambition

Backed by producer Shareef Muhammed under the Cubes Entertainments banner, Kattalan is mounted on a grand scale. The production house previously delivered the gritty action film Marco, directed by Haneef Adeni and starring Unni Mukundan, which set the tone for their appetite for stylised, high-octane storytelling.

Set against the backdrop of ivory smuggling, Kattalan promises a narrative that blends action with environmental and crime elements. The film’s action sequences are said to be particularly ambitious, featuring elephants and large-scale set pieces shot across international locations, including Thailand.

One of the biggest technical highlights is the involvement of acclaimed stunt coordinator Kecha Khamphakdee, known globally for his work on films like Ong-Bak 2. His presence signals a focus on raw, physically grounded action choreography that could elevate the film’s spectacle quotient.

On the music front, the film sees Ravi Basrur take over composing duties. Known for delivering powerful scores in films like KGF and Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire, Basrur replaces B. Ajaneesh Loknath of Kantara fame, marking an interesting creative shift in the film’s sonic landscape.

The technical crew also includes cinematographers Renadive and Chandru Selvaraj, editor Shameer Muhammed, and stunt coordinators Action Sandhosh and Kecha Khamphakdee, all of whom contribute to shaping the film’s ambitious vision.

With production now complete, Kattalan is gearing up for a theatrical release on May 14. If the steady stream of character reveals is anything to go by, the makers are positioning the film as a stylised action entertainer with a distinctive visual identity and a sprawling narrative canvas.
