Shakti Kapoor is one of Hindi cinema’s most prolific character actors, known for effortlessly balancing comedy, villainy and eccentric supporting roles across several decades. He adopted the screen name Shakti Kapoor after actor Sunil Dutt reportedly suggested it during the making of Rocky (1981).

His rise came during the late 1970s and 1980s, when he became a staple villain in mainstream Bollywood films. With his loud laugh, distinctive dialogue delivery and exaggerated mannerisms, he carved out a unique identity at a time when villains were crucial to commercial cinema. He frequently collaborated with actors like Jeetendra, Mithun Chakraborty and Govinda.

Some of his most memorable negative roles came in films like Qurbani, Rocky, Hero, Tohfa and Andaz Apna Apna, where his comic-villain character Crime Master Gogo became a cult favourite decades later.
