Manju Warrier has officially commenced work on her next Malayalam film, Happiloop, which was launched on Tuesday with a customary pooja ceremony in Irinjalakuda, Thrissur. Directed by Anand Menen, the project went on floors on Wednesday, May 13, and adds another intriguing title to the actor’s ever-expanding slate of diverse roles.
The film also stars veteran actor Mukesh and Kannada actor-director JP Thuminad, who recently drew attention for his work in the Kannada hit Su From So. While the makers have not yet revealed details about the story or genre, the unusual title and eclectic cast suggest a film that could blend offbeat sensibilities with mainstream appeal.
From Madhuram to Happiloop: A Promising Creative Collaboration
The screenplay is penned by Ashiq Aimar, whose previous credits include the acclaimed romance Madhuram and the critically appreciated crime series Kerala Crime Files Season 1. His writing has been noted for its emotional precision and understated storytelling, making this collaboration with Anand Menen particularly noteworthy.
Anand first made his directorial debut with Gauthamante Radham and later helmed Vaazha: Biopic of a Billion Boys, a youth-oriented comedy that became a surprise box office success. With Happiloop, the filmmaker appears to be venturing into yet another distinct narrative space.
The technical crew includes cinematographer Gautham Sankar and editor Kannan Mohan. Music will be composed by Electronic Kili and Parvatish Pradeep, with Parvatish also handling the background score.
Ensemble Cast and Manju Warrier’s Busy Slate
The supporting cast features Madhu Warrier, VK Prakash, Nishanth Sagar, Neeraja Rajendran and Athira Rajeev. The film is being produced by Bineesh Chandra under the banner Movie Bucket.
For Manju Warrier, Happiloop continues a particularly active phase in her career, one marked by collaborations with both established and emerging filmmakers. The actor has consistently sought out projects that challenge conventional expectations, reinforcing her standing as one of Malayalam cinema’s most dynamic performers. She also has Nere Chovva in the pipeline, which reunites her with Kunchacko Boban. The upcoming film will be directed by debutant Renjit Varma from a screenplay by Ramesh Ranjith and Sanish Subramanyan.
With filming in motion, more details about Happiloop are expected to be revealed in the coming weeks. Until then, the combination of Manju Warrier, an intriguing title, and a strong creative team has already made the project one to watch.
