When asked about her connection with her mother-in-law, Priya said, “I have a lot of connection with her. The more I hear about her, the more I feel that she was a lot like me. She never planned to be an actor. She started her journey as a host. She was a news reporter. She never went to any acting school. She went with the flow. Interestingly enough, I started my journey as a news reporter in Canada. More than the artiste, I relate to the human being that she was. I connect with her image as a person. Prateik (Smita Patil) and her other family members, like Prateik’s aunts say that I am a lot like her too. It’s more like, I don’t care about the outcome and that’s the biggest lesson to have.”
She added, “I never saw her films before I met Prateik. But when we speak of her as a human being, as a daughter and a friend, I relate to that a lot more than the artiste that she was. Anybody can be an artiste. There are so many talented actors there today. But I don’t think people got to know her as the person she was. Her work also overpowers her identity. She is fabulous and there is no comparison. She’s a legend to the world. To me, she is somebody I really relate to as a human being.”

Priya further revealed that Prateik often tells her he got to know a lot about his mother through her. Recalling one such conversation, she shared, “Prateik often tells me that he got to know a lot of his mother through me. He tells me, ‘I always saw her as Smita Patil, the actress. You introduced me to Smita Patil, the woman.’ She was a stunning human being. She went through life so beautifully. Everybody should do life with no expectations of outcomes. I genuinely relate to that.”
