Producer Naga Vamsi has once again spoken about the much-discussed collaboration between Kollywood director Nelson Dhilipkumar and Jr NTR. Naga Vamsi, who heads Sithara Entertainments, described Nelson as his favourite director and reiterated that the project is very much on track. He added that the film was always intended for Jr NTR ever since Nelson came on board.
Despite this reassurance, the project has shown little visible progress over the past year. Many had viewed the actor-director pairing as an unexpected yet exciting combination. While Naga Vamsi insists that the film is still happening, fans have learned not to take such announcements for granted.
Nelson’s stock soared after Jailer emerged as a blockbuster in 2023. That success paved the way for his collaboration with Jr NTR. Since then, he has wrapped up Jailer 2 with Rajinikanth. However, he is also expected to fulfil another major commitment in Tamil cinema before moving on to this project.
Hero’s packed itinerary
Jr NTR’s schedule leaves little room for Nelson’s film at the moment. Dragon is expected to occupy most of his 2026 calendar. After that, he is set to begin work on Trivikram’s God of War, which was announced recently and is expected to be the longest shoot of his career. Given these commitments, Nelson’s project is unlikely to go on floors anytime soon.
Jr NTR remains interested
There is, however, a silver lining. Naga Vamsi’s comments suggest that Jr NTR has already heard Nelson’s narration and liked it enough to remain committed to the project. That alone is enough to keep fans hopeful.
Lengthy development cycles have become increasingly common for big-budget pan-Indian films. So, the absence of a clear timeline is not entirely unusual. For now, the project remains in development, awaiting the right window in Jr NTR’s packed schedule.
Meanwhile, Jailer 2 is officially scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on October 15, with the makers eyeing the Dussehra weekend to maximise its box-office potential.
