This past Friday marked a special moment for female-led cinema as two action-packed films released in theatres together: Huma Qureshi’s Baby Do Die Do and the Alia Bhatt and Sharvari-starrer Alpha. While the announcement of their overlapping release dates sparked conversations about a potential box office clash, Huma has clarified her perspective, saying she does not see the situation as a competition.
Speaking to the news agency ANI about the release, Huma shared her thoughts on the coexistence of the two projects. She mentioned, “I don’t look at Alpha from a sense of being a competition. I think there is space for all kinds of films to be made and to be viewed. We’re an independently made film. I’m not even looking at what else is releasing on that weekend but just want to find my own audience.”
Huma expressed her support for the rise of female-driven stories in the industry. Highlighting the progress made, she added, “On the other hand, I think it’s amazing that here we are, where two female-led films are clashing at the box office. We’ve already reached a place where that’s actually a reality, and more power to all of us, and more power to all female-led content. I will always be cheering, not just for my own film, but also for my girlfriends.”
Baby Do Die Do is directed by Nachiket Samant and produced by Huma Qureshi and Saqib Saleem’s production house, Saleem Siblings. The film stars Huma in the role of a deaf and mute assassin named Baby KarMarKar, who experiences the voice of her deceased sister while carrying out murders. The supporting cast includes Seema Pahwa, Sikander Kher, Chunky Pandey, and Rachit Singh.
Meanwhile, Alpha is produced by Aditya Chopra under Yash Raj Films and marks the directorial debut of Shiv Rawail. The story, written by Soumil Shukla, Shridhar Raghavan, Ishita Moitra, and Uday Chopra, is based on an assassin raised in isolation who turns against her mentor after discovering the truth about her past. The film stars Alia Bhatt, Sharvari, Anil Kapoor, and Bobby Deol.
