One of Tamil cinema’s most celebrated actor-director collaborations is officially back. Putting an end to days of speculation and fan theories, Dhanush has announced that he will once again join hands with filmmaker Vetri Maaran for Thamizh Murugan, marking their fifth film together.
A blockbuster partnership returns
The project will be produced under Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films banner in association with Production Miles To Go. Veteran lyricist and writer Arivumathi has penned the screenplay, while Sai Abhyankkar has been roped in to compose the music. The film also extends Sai Abhyankkar’s association with Dhanush after the upcoming action-drama Om.
The announcement immediately sparked excitement among fans, many of whom had spent the past few days decoding posters and online hints in anticipation of Dhanush’s next project. While speculation ranged from a long-awaited sequel to Vada Chennai to an entirely new collaboration, the makers surprised audiences by unveiling an original venture instead.
The reunion also brings together one of the most successful partnerships in modern Tamil cinema. Vetri Maaran made his directorial debut with Polladhavan in 2007, starring Dhanush in the lead. The duo followed it up with Aadukalam, which went on to earn widespread acclaim and multiple National Awards. Their subsequent collaborations, Vada Chennai and Asuran further cemented their reputation for delivering critically acclaimed and commercially successful films.
Although Vada Chennai II: Anbuvin Ezhuchi was announced several years ago, the sequel is yet to enter production, making Thamizh Murugan the next chapter in their creative partnership. Given the consistent success of their previous outings, the announcement has naturally become one of the biggest talking points among Tamil cinema fans.

Vetri Maaran and Dhanush have busy schedules ahead
While the announcement has generated considerable curiosity, the makers have remained tight-lipped about the story. Apart from the principal creative team, no details regarding the supporting cast, technical crew, shooting schedule or release timeline have been revealed.
Vetri Maaran is currently occupied with Arasan, his ambitious film starring Silambarasan TR. Set within the world established in Vada Chennai, the film reportedly moves between the early 1990s and the present day, expanding the universe created in the 2018 gangster drama. The filmmaker is expected to complete work on Arasan before turning his attention to Thamizh Murugan.
Meanwhile, Dhanush has a packed slate ahead of him. The actor will next be seen in director Rajkumar Periasamy’s Om, which is slated to release on October 15. The action drama features an ensemble cast including Mammootty, Naseeruddin Shah, Sai Pallavi and Sreeleela, with Sai Abhyankkar composing the soundtrack.
Beyond Om, Dhanush also has multiple acting and directorial commitments lined up, making Thamizh Murugan one of the most anticipated additions to his already busy calendar.
With the film now officially announced, expectations are naturally high. Every previous collaboration between Dhanush and Vetri Maaran has left a lasting impact on Tamil cinema, whether through grounded storytelling, memorable characters or powerful performances. While audiences will have to wait for more details about the film itself, the reunion of the duo has already emerged as one of the biggest announcements in Kollywood this year.
